There came a point in my motherhood journey where I was done with the spiral of guilt and anxiety that working moms can experience when we’re being pulled in a million different directions and trying to do it all.
I was done with feeling overwhelmed and decided to intentionally reframe how I approached work-life balance. Spoiler alert – it’s made all the difference.
So, whether you work from home or at an office, hold a paying job or are responsible for managing the home and kids – whatever your “work” looks like – these 3 mindset shifts will help you approach it all in a new way and set you up for continued success.
1. Reframe work-life balance
Work life integration – My work is part of my life, they’re not separate. Balance doesn’t mean a perfectly balanced scale – that doesn’t exist. Let that go.
2. Redefine a Productive Day
Forget trying to check everything off of your long to do list, getting your inbox down to zero, and leaving feeling “complete for the day.” Instead, end each day by working on your top 3 priorities for the next day that will actually move the needle forward – not answering emails or admin work.
Most importantly, extend yourself so much grace and compassion.
3. Get Better at Pivoting than Planning
How quickly can you pivot and recover? It’s a superpower and it takes practice.
One shift, adjustment, last minute project, sick kid, surprise school event – it’s inevitable. It’s gonna happen. And how quickly you can adjust and refocus without it derailing you emotionally and ruining the rest of your day is gonna have a huge impact on your working mom experience.
