Did you know that a whopping 80% of nerve signals travel from our bodies to our brains? That means 20% of the messaging is heading in the opposite direction – from our brains down to our bodies. It’s a significant chunk, and the way we think has a massive impact on our nervous system, mood, energy levels, and overall well-being.
So, let’s talk about a few mantras or affirmations – call them what you like – that can be your go-to when life feels overwhelming, stressful, or you’re teetering on the brink of burnout.
3 Powerful Mantras
Mantra #1: Will I enjoy or endure this? This one’s a game-changer. Slap it on your planner and use it whenever you’re making decisions about saying yes or no to something. We all have aspects of life we must endure (like cleaning up dog puke – ugh!), but I’m talking about the optional stuff. How many times do we say yes out of fear – fear of disappointing someone, fear of judgment, fear of not being the perfect mom or friend? When faced with optional commitments, do a gut check – will you endure or enjoy it? Respond accordingly and let go of unnecessary stress.
Mantra #2: I do not have to earn the right to rest. This one was a game-changer for me. Instead of viewing rest as a reward for hard work or reaching the weekend, I started seeing it as one of the most productive things I could do. Humans may have to earn respect or money, but rest is a necessity, not a reward. Embrace the idea that rest is not a bonus for overworking; it’s a vital part of maintaining balance. Keep reminding yourself that rest is super productive and let go of the mindset that could lead to burnout.
Mantra #3: The only way I’m going to feel different is if I start showing up differently. Feeling stuck or overwhelmed? This mantra is your ticket to change. If you continue with the same thoughts and actions, you’ll keep experiencing the same feelings. Remember the three steps to making any change – awareness, information, and action. Acknowledge what needs to change, gather the information to support that change, and then take the leap. Nothing changes if nothing changes.
Feel free to jot these down, set them as your phone screensaver, or plaster them on your mirror, computer screen, and planner. The idea is to reinforce them often so they become powerful reminders as you rewire your thought patterns.
Moms, these affirmations are like little life rafts in the sea of overwhelm. They’re here to remind you that you have the power to shape your mindset and navigate the challenges of motherhood with grace. Give them a try, and let the positive vibes flow
