When we talk about the habits of successful women, we’re not just focusing on making millions. True success is about habits that serve every area of your life: business, motherhood, relationships, health, and overall well-being. These habits are fundamental to good self-care.

I’ve put together five key habits of success to consider. As you read, find the one that resonates most and commit to putting it into practice this week. Each habit has the potential to significantly enhance your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Let’s dive in!

1. They’re Okay with Not Being Understood by Everyone

One of life’s ultimate freedoms is releasing the need to be understood by everyone. Not everyone will agree with your decisions, how you handle your marriage, raise your kids, or set your boundaries. The sooner you can let go of this need, the sooner you free yourself from unnecessary stress. Some people, even those close to you, might never get it. You could explain until you’re blue in the face, and they still won’t agree. And that’s okay. It might hurt, and it might take some processing, but once you let go of needing to be understood, you can live boldly in alignment with your values and your family’s values. Let it go, mama.

2. They Set Boundaries

Boundaries are one of the most powerful forms of self-care. I’m talking about loving, healthy boundaries that protect you from burnout, guard your family time, preserve your bandwidth, and safeguard your mental and emotional health. Boundaries keep you on course and free from distraction. If you want to find success in any area of your life, good boundaries are essential. I have an entire podcast episode on boundaries – episode 45 – linked in the show notes. If boundaries are new or challenging for you, or if you need a framework to set necessary boundaries, listen to episode 45 for a step-by-step guide.

3. They Make Time to Reflect, Evaluate, Adjust

Reflection is a powerful practice. It can be daily, weekly, or monthly, but you shouldn’t let too much time pass without evaluating what’s working and what’s not. What do you want to keep doing? What do you want to start or stop doing? You can do this alone, with your partner, or as a family or business team. Spend 20 minutes brainstorming strengths and weaknesses of the day, week, or month so you can focus on enhancing what works and changing what doesn’t before you get too entrenched in ineffective systems and habits.

4. They’re Mindful of Their Self-Talk

What we’re doing is hard. There’s a lot to carry, coordinate, and hold. It’s heavy. But it becomes even heavier when our self-talk is negative. That inner voice is powerful, creating our reality and becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you wake up every day beating yourself up, wallowing in self-pity or defeat, being super critical and hard on yourself, you’re making this already tough journey even tougher. Start noticing how you speak to and about yourself. Catch negative patterns and replace them with life-affirming, encouraging thoughts. Become your own greatest cheerleader – it makes a huge difference.

5. They Have Mentors

The power of a mentor is exponential. Mentors compress time, teaching us in minutes what might take us months or years to learn on our own. If you don’t have a mentor in your business or workspace, find one. Even if it means hiring a business coach, it’s worth it. Similarly, consider having a motherhood mentor. It takes a village, and a motherhood mentor embodies that idea. This could be your own mother, grandmother, neighbor, or a family friend whose parenting you admire. Seek counsel, advice, and encouragement from them. It’s crucial to have people ahead of us on the journey, pouring into us. If you don’t have mentors, professionally or in motherhood, make it a priority to find them.

Conclusion

Embrace these habits and watch as they transform various aspects of your life. Remember, you don’t have to implement all of them at once. Choose one that resonates and start there. Success is about consistent, small steps that lead to significant, lasting change. You’ve got this, and I’m cheering you on every step of the way!
