Life as a mom is a whirlwind of joy, chaos, and everything in between. Our days are filled with laughter, love, and a fair share of challenges. Amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to overlook the signals our nervous system sends us, indicating the need for a little extra TLC.

Our bodies are constantly communicating with us emotionally and somatically. From a clenched jaw to neck and shoulder tension, headaches, and jittery legs, these are just a few examples of how our body speaks to us. It’s crucial to grow in somatic awareness so that we can recognize these signals and truly listen to the messages they convey.

As moms, we often find ourselves juggling a lot, and it’s not uncommon for us to dismiss these red flags as just being a little anxious or on edge. Ignoring these subtle and not-so-subtle signs can lead us down a path of losing our ever-loving minds and ultimately experiencing burnout. It all starts with neglecting the ways our body is telling us to slow down, take better care of ourselves, rest, ask for help, and simply pay attention.

Read flags moms shouldn’t ignore

1. Unusual Sensory Overload:

  • Sensitivity to noise, lights, and touch.
  • Startling easily.
  • Irritation caused by sounds or an aversion to bright lights.
  • Discomfort with tight clothes, jewelry, or certain textures.

2. Physical Symptoms:

  • Unexplained body aches and pains.
  • Gut issues, bloating, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Frequent headaches, brain fog, lack of focus.
  • Persistent fatigue and insomnia.
  • Severe PMS and hormonal imbalances.
  • Weakened immune system and autoimmune conditions.

3. Behavior Red Flags:

  • Irritability and edginess.
  • Frequent spacing out.
  • Engaging in excessive behaviors to keep busy.
  • Procrastination tendencies.
  • People-pleasing habits.
  • Overreliance on alcohol or food as coping mechanisms.
